Creating more jobs is also an important priority for many Mid-Hudson Valley residents. With an average score of 7.6 this issue is now the sixth highest ranked issue.
Although the average score for creating more jobs is comparable to its average rating five years ago, it has dipped in rank among the other issues. In 2002, it ranked fifth.
Job creation is among the top ten priorities for residents of all seven counties. This concern resonates most with residents of Sullivan, Dutchess, and Ulster Counties.
African American and Latino residents give this issue a higher average rating than white residents.
Creating more jobs is also among the top concerns for many residents that are having difficulty economically. For instance, job creation ranks among the top two priorities for residents with a household income of less than $15,000. These residents give it an average rating of 8.1.
Interestingly, residents with a household income of less than $15,000 do not place as much weight on the two other economic issues presented. Reducing taxes ranks just seventh on their list of priorities, and keeping businesses in the area is only their number eight priority.
The issue of job creation strongly resonates with households that have received public assistance in the past year, residents who are unemployed, or low income households with children.
