Keeping Businesses in the Area
Keeping businesses in the area is a major concern for many Mid-Hudson Valley residents.  It receives a mean score of 7.9 on a scale from 0 to 10 with 10 being the most important.  

Concern about business retention is just as prevalent in the Mid-Hudson Valley today as it was five years ago.  Residents ranked keeping businesses in the area as the single highest priority for the community in 2002.  Its average score of 7.9 by residents in the region is unchanged.  It still ranks among residents top three priorities for the region.  

Five years ago, this issue ranked among the top three issues in all six counties surveyed, and it continues to be in the top tier of priorities throughout the Mid-Hudson region today.  Keeping businesses in the area is now the number one priority in Greene and Sullivan Counties.  It is the number two concern in Dutchess and Putnam Counties.
The retention of businesses is a concern shared by many demographic groups across the Mid-Hudson region.  It is an important priority for people from all walks of life.  This is reflected in the high average rating it receives as a priority from most people even when it is outranked by other issues.
