Half of all Mid-Hudson Valley residents believe their community directs enough money toward child care and early education programs compared with 34% who think too little is being spent. 14% do not have any opinion on the matter.
Overall, residents now feel more positively about the amount
of local funding for child care and early education programs than they did five
years ago.Only 44% thought enough
resources were being expended in this area in 2002.
At the county level, at least half of all residents from Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster Counties think funding in the community for child care and early education programs is on target. A plurality of residents of Orange County agrees. 48% of Orange County residents say that spending is about right.
In Greene County, 49% of residents think spending on child care and early education programs is about right although 41% think spending in this area is too low.
Residents of Sullivan County are much more divided on the issue. 42% think the money the community spends on child care and early education programs is too low, and 41% think it is about right.
Mid-Hudson Valley residents with children, particularly single parents, parents with low income, and residents with young children, are more likely to feel that spending is too low in this area than residents who do not have children in their households.
Again, almost one in five residents without children does not have an opinion on this matter.
