Top Priorities

Reflecting other regional trends, economic concerns are top of mind for residents in Ulster County.  Business retention and job creation are the two leading priorities for residents in the county.  Both issues have climbed four rungs on the ladder of priorities from 2007.

However, the largest change is in residents’ waning concern for reducing taxes.  The issue currently ranks ninth compared with third in 2007.

Other important issues for Ulster County residents include improving the quality of public schools, making health care more affordable, providing services to senior citizens, making health insurance easier to get, and providing more after-school activities to children and teens.  However, the importance placed on health-related matters has declined since 2007.
